Porttia Yamahan journey into Nollywood started in 2006 when she registered for the Next Movie Star, the television foremost talent hunt reality show. Cynics predicted that she might not win because she had the like of competing housemates, Segun Kelvin, Babra,Michael, Ona, Toju, Aloy and the rest slogging it out in the house for consecutive 30 days in the hot house.The Edo State pretty actress eventually became the winner! She won her self a Kia Rio Brand new car,three movie contracts and lots of consolation prizes.The latest about her is, she has started her own movie after shooting, The Waiter, Dance hood and D8 (Sit–Com) from the stable of Digital Interactive Media(DIM), the creator of the Next Movie Star.Porttia hits location with Nollywood stars for her first movie. The working title is Black Friday. It promises to hit the selves in a couple of months. “I’ve started working on my first movie. The working title is called Black Friday. It will storm market very soon. It will sell like hot cake no doubt. Lots of things are into consideration. Watch out for it. It has lots of influential and experience movie stars.Aside that, the story line is very interesting. You will learn a lot about reality of life. Just keep your fingers cross. I’ve done many movies you have not really watched. My best are yet to come”, she stated.“I brain stormed well on the director, make-up artiste, director of photography, and the general crew.I would use on the project. I’ve started the movie already any way. I’ve the best hands in the industry.The cast for my movies are all experienced and reliable. I have Phil Eriabie the producer. I’ve Daniel Ademinokan as the director. Moji Hassan is the still photographer. Mike Ezuruonye plays the main lead. Nobel Young Plays sub lead. Annie Macaulay is also playing sub lead. Femi Brainad and Segun Ologbe are all playing sub lead. Of course, Porttia Yamahan is playing the lead. Costume and make-up guys are the best in the industry. Their records have proved that.There would never be a dull moment in the movie”.
“The yardstick for the casts is basically on the artistes we believe that can play and interpret the role efficiently according to the script. Even the whole crew, from the technical crew and others were all choosing based on their experiences and competence. In fact, we made sure that we employ D.O.P. that can interpret the script into reality. We have to get a creative lighting that we know can explore innovation during the shooting no matter any challenge. Sound person we employ has been very fantastic. The make-up person is doing his work efficiently. So, it is because we know they can deliver that is why we went for them. There are other criteria we used in selecting them aside the normal yardstick”, she added.Perhaps she has received any support from Haier Thermocool being the ambassador of the brand, she said: “I’ve not written any proposal to them on the movie. Haier Thermocool is a big brand in Nigeria. I just want to start with my own personal funds first.You know the Nigerian philosophy. Even if you want some one to help you, you need to start your own assignment first. So, I have taken a big step as far as I’m concerned. If I therefore write any proposal to Haier Thermocool, I’m very optimistic that they will be willing to help me when I eventually contact them.But currently, I’m doing the whole project my self.More so, protocol is very vital when it comes to brand support. This would definitely slow down my project. They would tell you to sign one document with one person and all that. I can’t bare that challenge now due to time constrain on the project. So, this is parts of my decision to do it alone.
